THE BOTANICAL

MUSEUM OF LEVANT.

The site is located in the neighbourhood of Jabal Al Lweibdeh in Amman, Jordan. It was an old park that was used by the local community during different times of the day. One of the main objectives of the project were to maintain the park for the local community,to keep the visual identity and feel of the site and to avoid obstructing the view of the center of the neighbourhood. The concept of the museum was to re-assemble Levant which was a region that consisted of 4 countries ( Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine, Syria), to end the typical stereotypes about each country in the Middle East world and to remind people that they were all from the same place once. These 4 countries grow many similar plants, thus they connect through Flora. The museum has 4 strips of gardens, each strip resembles a country. The symbol plant of the countries is planted in the middle of the strip,Cedar Trees are the national symbol for Lebanon, Black Iris for Jordan, Poppy flowers for Palestine and Jasmine for Syria growing the shared plants in them. Beneath the gardens lies the museum, which includes exhibitions and interactive spaces that displays different kinds of information about the Flora of Levant.

SITE PLAN

Walking through the pathways in the gardens, you can see small screens in front of each plant displaying different information about the plant, such as its scientific name or from which kingdom do they belong to .  The visitor can smell, touch or see the plants and then continue their Journey to the underground Museum to learn more about the plants.
